Entry #2: A new genre of Music: K-pop

Hello my fellow classmate! So this is my first original post that related to the topic of my blogs, I hope you guys will enjoy it because I think it is really interesting to know about K-pop.

This article will introduce briefly the highlights of K-pop. Due to limited time, I will go into detail in the following articles.

Well, when writing and talking about kpop, my motto is:

"K-pop is not just music, it's a lifestyle!"

Now, I'm sure that some of you will ask "What is K-pop?" and "Why is it being popular around the world? or something like "I have a friend who is a fan of kpop, why does she/he is too crazy about kpop?" Right? Haha, you will know. Get ready for a new world.

To start off, K-pop is stand for Korean-pop. It's korean music. That's all! Well, you may ask that "What are the differences between K-pop and Western Music?". Let's me explain it clearly. K-pop is a musical genre consisting of electronic, hip hop, pop, rock, and R&B music originating in South Korea. K-pop is not only about music, but also a lot of things to say about it.

First, let's talk about the Idols. This is the first point that you must know about k-pop, idol is different from singer. Singers are people who only sing on stage and work for their songs, but Idols are people who not only sing on stage and work for their songs, they can also be models, actors, composers and performers in many other fields. Usually the idol will be a group rather than an individual like the western singer. When talking about k-pop, it is often referred to idol rather than singer. It's a big deal when you want to become an idol. The K-pop idol are once trainees when they are at a very young age. In Korea, some kids are just 6-7 years all when they get auditioned. They go to an audition for a music company (There are 3 big companies and I will talk about it in my next post), and if lucky, they will be chosen to become a trainee. That's just the beginning. These trainees will need to practice for years with the desire to debut as a popular K-pop group. I really admire these people because they have decided their dreams and their paths since they were elementary and middle school students. They are not forced by parents, it's what they want to do with their life. There are even children who have fled the family to go to the audition with the desire to become a singer to pursue their dreams. During the time being the trainee, They spend years practicing singing, dancing, acting and also how to be an model. It is amazing that these trainees spend 16 hours a day practicing and dancing. Surprised? Me too, I was amazed and shocked when I know about it.

Next, the Music. You will be overwhelmed by visuals of K-pop. K-pop music is really different from western music. In Western music, Songs sometimes are just songs which describing an emotion and the singer try to share that emotion with the listener, and most of the songs are usually about joy, sadness or the loss. But in contrast, K-pop music is not just about sharing the emotions with the listeners, but there are hidden stories behind them. This is one of the reasons why K-pop is so special. A K-pop song will be released as a Music Video (MV). Inside the MVs will be images and their dances to express the feelings and meaning hidden deep within the song in a special way. Also, K-pop songs are often more diverse. When an idol group releases a new song, they will have to choose a concept for the song, such as: student concept, love concept, universe concept, funny concept, beach concept, summer concept... That sounds weird, right? Believe me, You have never seen anything like this. Therefore, K-pop songs not only talk about love, emotion but also about youth, dreams, friends, family, and especially, mental health issues. This is why you will see K-pop is really relatable and close to you.

I'm pretty sure you have not heard of such a strange music genre like this. But that is why K-pop is so intense and people around the globe are almost crazy about it. I have been a K-pop fan for a long time but whenever a new song is released, I'm always amazed. Surprises continue to happen and better

To be honest, you must search and see for some K-pop Music videos right now! Or you can click some videos that I have attached below.

I'd recommend: Monster - Exo; Blood Sweat and Tears - BTS, Clap - Seventeen and Likey - Twice. These are just a few simple music video. As you learn more, it will be extremely intense

Last but not least, the Variety show. Similar to western entertainment, K-pop has its own talk show and this is where the fans feel the idol becomes closer. We call it Variety shows. 

Weekly Idol Show

In these shows, they participate in programs with a variety of concepts, sometimes simple talk shows, sometimes very interesting game shows, and there are also interviews alternating these Variety shows. This is the reason that fans feel so close to idols. Unlike western entertainment, K-pop idols see fans as close friends, they share and connect with fans on variety shows and social networks.

I'm pretty sure that you guys have heard about K-pop on social networks and friends
 recently. Some people said that this is the time of K-pop. I will say, yes, K-pop has grown into a popular subculture among teenagers and young adults throughout Asia, resulting in widespread interest in the fashion and style of Korean idol groups and singers.

K-pop has now even spread outside of Korea, thanks to the internet.  People all over the world now enjoy K-pop, even though they don't necessarily understand the words. K-pop has formed many lifelong friend ships, and I hope this will be the case for you too!

These are just the basic differences between western music and K-pop. In the next article, I will talk more in detail next post. I hope you guys will enjoy it.
