Entry #7: The story of food

I used to think that all foods are meant to provide nutrients and help us, human beings, to fill our stomachs when we are hungry. Furthermore, I have also been taught to appreciate the food and the maker of it, but I really do not understand the story behind the food until I watch the movie Fresh. The film had a tremendous impact and made me see a different perspective on food.

This is not really a movie, it is a documentary that helps us to see what happen to food and how our food is treated before it reaches us. I believed that this film was made for everyone, the consumer who does not know anything about the story of food behind it.

We are too indifferent to what we eat, which we put into our bodies without regard to their origin, their quality, and whether what we eat is really fresh and healthy? Food companies and big farmers always make us believe that all the food that from them are fresh and healthy. But, is it true? How do we know if they raise animals such as chickens, cows and pigs legally and correctly? We never know. What we see is the labels on the packaging telling us that their products are "Fresh", "real beef", and "100% pure fresh milk". We do not know what happens behind them.

We are too naive to believe that all food suppliers are reliable and safe. But the truth is, there are people who, because of the money and saving production costs, do things we can not even imagine to our food. These dirty strategies help them reduce production costs and increase income, while the real clean products are too expensive and difficult to reach consumers.

This is a really interesting documentary, which makes us surprised and amazed at the simple truths we have never seen before. I believe that people need to be careful in choosing the food they will eat after watching this documentary.

"If you want to eat healthy foods, we need to know how they are treated."
